Born in Sydney and raised in Mona Vale, a suburb north of the same Australian city, Courtney Melba Barnett is an indie singer/songwriter recognized for her loose, gritty power-trio presentation, sharp lyrics, and deadpan conversational delivery. She received her middle name, Melba, from the Australian opera singer Nellie Melba.
Courtney is an enigmatic anti-influencer, a powerful voice for our time, a recluse acclaimed by audiences worldwide, and a strong female artist in conflict with herself.
Since her first work, The Double EP: A Sea of Split Peas, which attracted the attention of the public and music critics in late 2013, she has released 7 albums and has just released a new single, Stay In Your Lane, where Barnett proved that she remains one of the most powerful guitarists of her generation, and that she preserves her ability to transform the everyday into poetry:
“Gotta get this off my chest. This never would’ve happened if I stayed in my lane, stayed the same way”
