SOUTH ARCADE

Not everyone will have fond memories of lockdown, but it was precisely during that time when Harmony Cavelle and Harry Winks, vocalist and guitarist respectively of South Arcade, started composing together. They soon realized that they were aiming for something greater, something truly worthwhile. Cody Jones, the drummer, joined them shortly after, and it was only a matter of time before they completed the group with the last member, Ollie Green, the bassist.

When the moment of deciding which way to take arrived, they realised that each of them was into different genres. Harry leaned toward traditional rock, Cody preferred nu-metal, Ollie was more into indie, and Harmony had a preference for rap. When they dived deeper into sound, they noticed that all of these influences were really popular in the 2000s. They consider that their song Nepo Baby is what led them to find the sound they were really looking for.

During one of their weekly rehearsals they decided to take a chance, and they started recording with a camera. That was when their songs (among them How 2 Get Away With Murder and Stone Cold Summer) started gaining popularity in TikTok until reaching, and surpassing the million streams in Spotify.

And the fact is that their music, with those energetic and catchy rhythms of alternative rock from the early century, is aimed towards both unconcerned nostalgics of the Y2K tendency which are looking for a way out of reality, and teenagers that hadn’t had the opportunity of experimenting what going to a concert of an icon of the old days is, icons like Avril Lavigne or Bring Me The Horizon.

“It’s something really important for us. I said it before: it’s all that escapism stuff, and taking things easily. Our audience includes from those 14 year old guys that are enjoying a real band for the first time, to those people who really lived in those times, and they actually enjoy it due to this nostalgic vibe.”
